Our entire staff wants to offer our deepest and heartfelt thanks to our wonderful families who put together the Teacher Appreciation Dinner for us. Each and every one of us was awed by the evening. Special thank you's to Sarah Scheeline for spear heading the event and Jessica Rooker for planning the menu and preparing the food, as well as the parents who decorate the room, served and cleaned that night. (Ben Sharpe, Monique Streeter, Erica Winnicki, Heather Shannon, Kelly Fugina and Jennifer Tucker) We were treated to a absolutely delicious 4 course meal. Everything the food, the flowers, the gifts and cards were just perfect. We know many donated, shopped for gifts and worked behind the scenes and we thank you, too. (Since we were all personally treated to her amazing skill as a chef we highly recommend Jessica to anyone needing an event catered.)
We will be closed on Monday, May 25th for Memorial Day. Enjoy the long weekend. Our next holidays are Friday, July 3rd and Monday, September 7th.
If you have not done so already and would like sunscreen applied to your child please make sure to send in a bottle. We ask that parents apply it in the morning before school and we will apply in the afternoon before they go outside.
A few reminders: 1.} Please remember to sign your child in and out every day. (We don't want to call you to come back) 2.} All infant & toddlers need to bring in updated immunization records. 3.} Please keep all work, home and cell phone numbers updated. This is for parents and any other contacts you have listed for us. It is really important that we be able to reach you if we need to.
The butterflies are finishing their TRAIN project this month. They are at the field study portion of the project and will be going to and from Davis on Amtrak. We will have a train party at the end. May is a busy month the butterflies will be working on May Day, Japanese Children's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day and Graduation prep. Graduation for the Butterflies will be held on Thursday June 11 @ 6:30 pm. They are already working hard practicing daily. As a reminder to parents the butterflies are welcome to stay through the summer. We will continue with our kindergarten readiness. Miss Claire and Miss Ana plan to take the Butterflies on walks to the park to play on a regular basis throughout the summer.
In addition to all the special days listed above the Caterpillars will be working on May Flowers. Watch as our room 'grows' into a beautiful spring garden. We continue to work on letters and numbers as well as our first and last names.
The bumble Bees will be working on May Flowers as well this month and have projects for all the special days in May. They have fun participation activities daily at circle for color, shape, number, letter and name recognition.
The Lady bugs and Grasshoppers are continuing their spring theme this month along with all the special days in May.
A reminder that each month we are sending home a book order form. Scholastic offers a great selection of books at very reasonable prices. The school earns points so that we may increase our library too. Reading together is a wonderful way to strengthen reading skills and instill the love of reading for your child. We are asking for orders to be brought back to the school so we can keep track. Let us know if you have any questions.
Share day for the butterflies is Thursday. Share for the Bumble Bees and Caterpillars is Tuesday. Remember NO weapons or super hero or related items.Children will not be allowed to share these items. Thank you! Remember that children should not bring in toys or other items except on share day. These items can get lost or broken or cause hurt feelings. Thank you for your help in following this policy. Books or CD's are welcome any day.
We remind parents of our sick policy as stated in your parent handbook as the cold and flu season is upon us. Children may not be at school with (but not limited to) fever, vomiting, diarrhea or continuous cough. Children should be kept home for 24 full hours after being symptom free (without medication). We want parents to know what we are doing at the center to prevent the spread of illness. We are diligently sterilizing every classroom and it contents repeatedly through the day. We are keeping our air purifier on and our windows open for ventilation. Teachers continue to follow all guidelines for diaper changing and hand washing. Parents who are ill are asked to call us from the parking lot and we will bring your child and sign out sheets to you.
When dropping off or picking up your child please remember to pull in from the north driveway and park so that 2 cars can fit side by side. (But please allow enough space for the gate to open.) Also our wonderful neighbors @ Fresh & Quick Catering allow us to use their lot however they do ask that you use the spaces facing Riverside Blvd and not along the building or the fence separating our properties. During their business hours please do not use Japanese Service Center's parking lot.
Some meal reminders; we serve breakfast until 8:15, morning snack (between 9:30-10:00), lunch at 11:30 and afternoon snack (about 3:30). We ask that no outside food come into the center for individuals. This includes at breakfast time. Snacks for your child's class group are welcome. We remind you that we have a nut free school. Thank you for understanding these policies.
We remind parents to please keep all work, home and cell phone numbers updated. This is for parents and any other contacts you have listed for us. It is really important that we be able to reach you if we need to.
Remember to check coat racks for coats, jackets and sweaters you may have left. We are again getting quite a collection. Please make sure all coats, sweaters and jackets are labeled so that we can get them back to your child's cubby if needed.
Tuition is due on the first of each month. We do not bill. And as summer approaches remember the full month's tuition is due even if your child misses some days due to vacation or illness. We also remind parents that there is a 30 day notice required when removing your child from the center.
