We are closed on Monday, February 15th in honor of President's Day. The holidays for the rest of 2016 will be listed on the holiday page of the website. We want parents to be aware that we will be closing on Ceaser Chavez Day (March 31st) but will remain open on Columbus Day in October. Our annual Staff training is set for Thursday, April 21st (closed at 12:30) and Friday, April 22nd (closed all day).
Thank you to the families who supported the Sees sale. The candy will be here during the end of the first week of the month. We will have one more sale next month for Spring. The money raised goes towards staff training and The Week of the Young Child.
February is a busy month at LPIC&P. All the class groups will be investigating Ground Hog Day & shadows, Valentine's Day & friendship, US Presidents, Chinese New Year, Dental health and Black History. Look for pictures and projects to be hung up in each classroom or sent home. As always if you have books related to any of these subjects please send them in with your child to share.
On Friday February 12 we will be celebrating Valentine's Day the children may bring cards to pass out to their friends. For the younger children leaving them unaddressed or simply addressed "to my friend" allows the children to pass out their own cards. Just have their name on the back. It is great handwriting practice for the older to children to address the cards to their friends and sign the back themselves.
Once again we want to remind parents that we have an indoor/outdoor program and that the preschoolers go outside almost every day. Please make sure they are dressed accordingly. We even make use of the covered patio on rainy days. If you child is well enough to be at school he/she will go outside with their group.
A few reminders: 1.} Please remember to sign your child in and out every day. (We don't want to call you to come back but will.) 2.} All infant & toddlers need to bring in updated immunization records. 3.} Please keep all work, home and cell phone numbers updated. This is for parents and any other contacts you have listed for us. It is really important that we be able to reach you if we need to. 4.} All children must have a change of clothes left at school daily. (If needed we will call parents to bring in a change of clothes)
Please make sure your child has a blanket to use at nap daily. (just one please) It should be able to be placed easily in their cubby. Please take home regularly to launder and bring back the next day.
Wednesday is yoga day for the Butterflies, Caterpillars and Blue Bees. (subject to change if needed) Please have your children dressed in clothes they can move easily in. Try not to have tights on for yoga day. Children may bring in yoga mats for the lesson but do not have to.
Tuesday is Italian day! (Also subject to change) Each preschool class has an Italian lesson followed by an art project. We have added words pertaining to family members and relationships as well as reviewing colors, numbers and body parts. We will be continuing with names of foods and doing some cooking projects. Check out the Italian boards in each preschool classroom.
The butterflies are continuing there work with the zoo-phonics program. They are really getting good at using the sound and signal for their names and 3 letter words. If you have any questions about the program don't hesitate to ask. In addition to the above topics the butterflies are going to be investigating feeling and emotions.
If you have not done so it is time to register your child for kindergarten. Families may register their children either at their neighborhood school (through Monday, February 2) or at the SCUSD Enrollment Center, 5601 47th Ave. Visit the SCUSD web page to determine your child’s school of attendance based on school boundaries. Parents may also register under open enrollment if wanting a school other then your school of residence. You may call and set up times to make observations at any of the schools. You will need birth certificate, proof of residence and an up to date immunization record. For Traditional Kindergarten your child must turn 5 before September 2nd this year. If you have any questions let us know.
The Caterpillars are working hard on handwriting with names, numbers and the letter of the week. They review names, letters, numbers and calendar each day at circle with various activities. In addition to the topics listed above the Caterpillars will be working on dinosaurs this month.
The Bees work daily with colors, shapes, name recognition, numbers and counting. They have table time with manipulative activities daily. Along with the above mentioned topics the Bess will be working on Friendship this month.
The Lady bugs and Sweet Peas have a daily circle, art, inside and outside play and lots of stories throughout the day. Sweet peas are sung and read to throughout the day as well as having tummy time and baby massage. Sweet peas do simple art projects that double as language and sensory opportunities. All infant groups have projects planned following the concept of winter.
A reminder that each month we are sending home a book order form. Scholastic offers a great selection of books at very reasonable prices. The school earns points so that we may increase our library too. Reading together is a wonderful way to strengthen reading skills and instill the love of reading for your child. We are asking for orders to be brought back to the school so we can keep track. Let us know if you have any questions.
Share day for the butterflies is Wednesday. Share for the Bumble Bees and Caterpillars is Tuesday. Remember NO weapons or super hero or related items.Children will not be allowed to share these items. Thank you! Remember that children may not bring in toys or other items except on share day. These items can get lost or broken or cause hurt feelings. Leave in your car. Thank you for your help in following this policy. Books or CD's are welcome any day.
We remind parents of our sick policy as stated in your parent handbook as the cold and flu season is upon us. Children may not be at school with (but not limited to) fever, vomiting, diarrhea or continuous cough. Children must be kept home for 24 full hours after being symptom free (without medication). We want parents to know what we are doing at the center to prevent the spread of illness. We diligently sterilize every classroom and it contents repeatedly through the day. We keep an air purifier on. Teachers continue to follow all guidelines for diaper changing and hand washing. There is a bottle of hand sanitizer for adults at the front sign in counter. Parents who are ill are asked to call us from the parking lot and we will bring your child and sign out sheets to you.
When dropping off or picking up your child please remember to pull in from the north driveway and park so that 2 cars can fit side by side. But please allow enough space for the gate to open.) You may also park in the lot to the south of the school. During their business hours please do not use Japanese Service Center's parking lot.
Some meal reminders; we serve breakfast until 8:15, morning snack (between 9:30-10:00), lunch at 11:30 and afternoon snack (about 3:30). We ask that no outside food come into the center for individuals. This includes at breakfast time. At breakfast we ask that children serve themselves one scoop of cereal. They are welcome to seconds and thirds when done with the firsts. Snacks and lunches are prepared and set out so the children serve themselves. We encourage a "happy bite" of all foods and talk about how taste buds change. Snacks for your child's class group are welcome especially to celebrate their birthdays. We remind you that we have a nut free school. Thank you for understanding and following these policies.
Tuition is due on the first of each month. We do not bill. Remember the full month's tuition is due even if your child misses some days due to vacation, holidays or illness. Our costs do not change because a child is gone for a week. Also please remember that for those children who do not attend 5 days a week there is no trading of days. We also remind parents that there is a 30 day notice required when removing your child from the center.
