The Week of the Young Child is April 24th -April 28th this year. We will have Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work-together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday and Family Friday. Puppet art theater will be here on Monday morning to perform The Three Little Pigs. We have a pizza party planned (Thursday) and an ice cream social on Friday afternoon. We invite parents to come and read a story to their child's class. A letter will go home the week before with more information. Because of the special activities there will be no yoga or Italian during this week.
Thank you to all the families who supported the Spring Sees sale. This is the last sale until the Winter sale next November. The money raised goes to staff development training and Week of the Young Child Activities.
We had a informative and productive staff training this month. We were presented with some wonderful 'positive discipline" techniques and information from a conference Miss Mary attended earlier this year. We also had a chance for curriculum updates and planning for the rest of the year, planning and preparing for The Week of the Young Child and some time for some extra heavy classroom cleaning. The entire staff thank all of our parents for understanding how important this is for us to stay on the cutting edge of early childhood education ideas.
We will be closed on Monday, May 29th for Memorial Day. The holidays for the rest of the year are Independence Day (July 4th), Labor Day (Sept 4th), Veteran's Day (Nov 10th), Thanksgiving Holiday (Nov 22nd @ 12:30, Nov 23rd and 24th ), Christmas Holiday (Dec 25 & 26)
We have a limited number of Land Park Infant Center and Preschool Tee shirts on sale for $12.00 each. They are royal blue with the same logo as on the staff aprons. Please let us know if you would like one. (Cash only, please)

Please make sure your child has a blanket to use at nap daily. (just one please) It should be able to be placed easily in your child's cubby. Please take home regularly to launder and bring back the next day.
Wednesday is yoga day for the Preschoolers. (subject to change if needed) Please have your children dressed in clothes they can move easily in. Try not to have tights on for yoga day. Each week we send home a sheet with the new poses on it.
Tuesday is Italian day! (Also subject to change) Each preschool class has an Italian lesson followed by an art project. Check out the Italian boards in each preschool classroom. A lesson review sheet goes home each week with the new words. We have started a unit on food (il cibo). We count and go over colors during all lessons!
The Butterflies are "Soaring into Nature" this month while the Caterpillars are 'Bugging out" and the Bumble Bees are learning all about "bugs, bugs, bugs." If you have any books related to these subjects please send them in with your child. We will also have projects on Easter, an egg hunt and will discuss Earth Day.
The butterflies continue their work with zoo-phonics. It is so exciting to watch them learn to sound out the words. The focus on one letter each week. Each letter is related to a zoo-phonics animal and has a sound and signal. There is a manuscript component to the program. If you have any questions about the program please ask! Graduation for the Butterflies is set for Thursday, July 15th @ 6:30. Butterflies are welcome to stay through the summer.
The Caterpillars also have a letter of the week program that includes an art component as well as manuscript writing. Right now they are working on their names. We introduce one letter at a time and we write it the kindergarten way with first letter capital and the rest lower case.
The Bees work daily with colors, shapes, name recognition, numbers and counting. They have table time with manipulative activities daily. The letter of the week program in the Bumble Bee room is visually and art based.
The Lady bugs and Sweet Peas have a daily circle, art, inside and outside play and lots of stories throughout the day. Sweet peas are sung and read to throughout the day as well as having tummy time and baby massage. Sweet peas do simple art projects that double as language and sensory opportunities.
Share day for the butterflies is Wednesday. Share for the Bumble Bees and Caterpillars is Tuesday. Remember NO weapons or super hero or related items.Children will not be allowed to share these items. Please help your child find something interesting to share. Thank you! Remember that children may not bring in toys or other items except on share day. These items can get lost or broken or cause hurt feelings. Leave in your car. Thank you for your help in following this policy. Books or CD's are welcome any day.
We remind parents of our sick policy as stated in your parent handbook as the cold and flu season is upon us. Children may not be at school with (but not limited to) fever, vomiting, diarrhea or continuous cough. Children must be kept home for 24 full hours after being symptom free (without medication). We want parents to know what we are doing at the center to prevent the spread of illness. We diligently sterilize every classroom and it contents repeatedly through the day. We keep an air purifier on. Teachers continue to follow all guidelines for diaper changing and hand washing. There is a bottle of hand sanitizer for adults at the front sign in counter. Parents who are ill are asked to call us from the parking lot and we will bring your child and sign out sheets to you. We are strictly enforcing our 24 hour policy.
When dropping off or picking up your child please remember to pull in from the north driveway and park so that 2 cars can fit side by side. But please allow enough space for the gate to open.) You may also park in the lot to the south of the school. During their business hours please do not use Japanese Service Center's parking lot.
Some meal reminders; we serve breakfast until 8:15, morning snack (between 9:30-10:00), lunch at 11:30 and afternoon snack (about 3:30). We ask that no outside food come into the center for individuals. This includes at breakfast time. At breakfast we ask that children serve themselves one level scoop of cereal. They are welcome to seconds and thirds when done with the firsts. Snacks and lunches are prepared and set out so the children serve themselves. We encourage a "happy bite" of all foods and talk about how taste buds change. Snacks for your child's class group are welcome especially to celebrate their birthdays. We remind you that we have a nut free school. Thank you for understanding and following these policies.
Tuition is due on the first of each month. We do not bill. Remember the full month's tuition is due even if your child misses some days due to vacation, holidays or illness. Our costs do not change because a child is gone for a week. Also please remember that for those children who do not attend 5 days a week there is no trading of days. We also remind parents that there is a 30 day notice required when removing your child from the center.
